Peterborough 7-12 Towcesterians

New Year for the Ultimates, who have been promoted into the league play off with the other league. The league now includes Ampthill, Bedford Athletic, Kettering, Peterborough, Old Northamptonians and The Ultimate Towcesterians.

So the turn of the year, brought the Ultimates away to Peterborough. The Tows were ready to commence battle! Jacko got welcomed into a new position, hooker. Which bolstered the front row to a scary sixty stone and we made sure that we used that to our advantage.

The first half was hard fought and both teams getting use to the new law of the 'high tackle.' Unfortunately B.Lawrence had pulled the short straw and picked up a yellow card for that new controversial adaptation. But Towcester continue to battle on. Peterborough seemed to only capitalise on a over lap and went over once in that 10 minutes they had the numerical advantage, 7-0.

The ultimates never gave up and brought it back straight away.. was it Chapman? Who crashed that ball in, Ref said no but don't worry Sandro had made sure so picked up the ball again and helped M.Hampson out by bringing it closer to the posts but still couldn't convert. 7-5 the score.

An injury to W.Thomas brought on R.Sheppard (Welcome back). The half came to a close at 7-5 and both teams back up to 15.

Second half came, Subs have been made. This game was still very much in the balance, both teams still wanting that first 'W' of 2017!

Towcesterians kept fighting into the Peterboroughs '22 but kept falling short by the lack of discipline so Peterborough kept easing the pressure by clearing their lines. Until the luck had changed Towcester had been rewarded a penalty. After #4thefansPhil running through the defence and only being stopped by illegal play by Peterborough which lead to Quick thinking by B.Lawrence to complete a quick tap and a miss pass to M.Lama for him to run under the post and score. Converted by B.Lawrence. 7-12

The game was still very lively with big hits going in from both teams, but for Towcesterians C.Doggett placed a try saving tackle in. "Good old boy!"

Jacko was still on the pitch showing what he was made off! Brute force and beer! That made him unstoppable smashing the opposition, tackling everything he could get his hands on, a well deserved 10 minute break I believe, even the ref agreed with his yellow card for a high tackle infringement.. I'm sure that's going to be the story for a lot a cards this weekend. But we can do better than a yellow card Jacko; well done on your man of the match!

The game ended 7-12. A good win on the road, especially against a strong Peterborough side.
