Lots of changes but still a win

Lots of changes but still a win

Paul Smith5 Nov 2017 - 21:42

Another 8 changes this week but Towcester still but in a decent performance for the win.

It took the visiting side just a few minutes to get points on the board as Towcester infringed at the breakdown.
This is something that needs to be worked on as week after week the penalty count is never in our favour.
The visitors with their tails up started to put a little bit of pressure on the Tows but quick movement of the ball found Cam Young who managed to keep hold of the ball to score Tows first try, Matt Yuill added the extras with the conversion.
Unfortunately on the 10 minute mark James Pettit popped his shoulder bringing Lewis bodily on to the field early than planned.
Play continued to be fairly competitive with Tows spilling lots of ball to allow the opposition to attack.
Tows second try came from a quick tap from Marc Yeates who threw a miss pass to Matt Yuill to touch down in the corner.
Newbold secured the final try of the half after numerous penalties were given away and a quick tap from the nine sent the ball out wide for the score. Despite Tows dominating every scrum they failed to capitalise and the half finished with no more scores.
Half time chat was all about keeping the ball in hand and again playing simple rugby.
Unfortunately for the first 5 minutes we went to sleep slipping off numerous tackles giving the opposition front foot ball.
A mistake from Newbold allowed Tows to kick to touch which wasn't secured by at the line out. Quick hands and a lucky bounce pass ended up in Cam Youngs hands for his second of the match.
It took another 10 minutes and a couple of penalties for Tows to form a rolling maul 10 metres out and drive to the line. The try was given and Richard Tustain rose from the pile of bodies to claim the points.
Newbold secured the next points as a few tackles were missed as their influential winger weaved his way to the posts.
The final score came from another dominant scrum dead centre of the pitch . The opposition pack were going backward and the ball was kept at the base by Yeates. 5 metres from the line he picked up and drove his way over the line.
Although not pretty it was still another win, with all the changes that the squad has to make its a credit to all the players on how they buy into the game plan and the spirit of the team.
This weeks man of the match was Jamie King.
