This wasn’t a game of rugby it was mud wrestling in style or so it seemed . With all of Derby pitches looking in poor condition the game was about who could keep the ball and not give away penalties. The game started really strong from the home side who must have thought we’ll play the big boys today in the mud as they continued to pick and drive pushing Tows into their own 22 and it seemed along 5 minutes before the Tows made the break with Adam Wilkinson and Alex Foggett both playing out of position to get the team out but the pair could only make it half way before coming to a slippery halt . Derby hit back and make a clear break through the centre of Tows Defence which couldn’t be halted and this continued until half time 12-0
The second half the side was changed around bringing Jonty Barrie from the back row into inside centre and allowing another forward on the field which seemed to stem the attack from Derby but the 1st half had taken the legs out of many players including Liam Wilkinson and John Causebrook who both had muscle issues who needed to leave the field . Tows put on more fresh legs Phil Culwick- Conor Frost - Kallum Paganno but had more injuries for the Tows who saw sean Denton come off with a nasty cut to his lip but Tows never came up on the game even conceeding another 13 points in the 2nd half . I have nothing but admiration for the lads who played against a very strong side in poor conditions but today wasn’t a day for the Tows and I’m sure if conditions had been better the Tows would have come away with the win or minimum points on the board .
There is no man of the match as all played well but I a big well done to Scott Howkins on his 1st ever Loose-head game and stood up against a man double his weight .
