Stratford-Upon-Avon 19 - 45 Towcestrians

It promised to be a tough game today, with many of our players out injured. We only had 15 players to start with and many playing out of position.

The pitch was dry despite recent weather, though no corner-flags, no linesman flags and poor line markings made it difficult for their officials and us playing. We started strong with Luca scoring a try within five minutes, but we unfortunately missed the conversion. Second and third tries from Jeremy Gundle and JJ Hunt with conversions by Edward Monk came in quite quickly after as we started to settle in to this new team selection.

Despite missing our Number 8, Tight-Head, Fly-Half and Full-back, we never really looked threatened in the first-half. Owen Cammidge scored another try later in the first half but they stole a try back just before half-time. Half-time score was 22 - 7 to our advantage.

James Deamer picked-up an injury to his thumb and was unfortunately not unable to play the second-half, which meant we were down to 14 players. As we had been on top, their coaches wanted to stay at 15 players, so we knew the second half would be tough. We started the second-half quickly though with Jeremy Gundle scoring a great try giving Edward Monk a simple conversion in front of the posts. 29 - 7 to Tows.

Stratford scored one back but missed the conversion to make it 29 - 12. JJ Hunt and Jeremy Gundle had strong games today with some great runs from deep and strong tackles. Both boys went on to score another couple of tries each later in the half.

Stratford haven’t lost too many games, in fact their only loss in three years was against us 12 months ago. Their team started to get very frustrated and tensions were running high and that resulted in one code blue that saw their player being sent off with ten minutes to go. That evened out out the number of players, though some of our boys were beginning to tire after a tough Cup match on Wednesday evening.

Stratford managed one last try towards the end of the game that saw Towcestrians win 45 - 19.

Well done to Ruben Madden who completed his first full-game for us as Prop, and he had a great game. Next game is Bromsgrove at Home where we will hopefully have a few of our injured players back!
