Tows continue their momentum vs Ampthill

Tows continue their momentum vs Ampthill

Sharon French18 Jan 2017 - 17:33

From the kick off Tows put pressure on Ampthill with organisation in defence and some good strong runs.

Tows u14s went on the road again with a speedily arranged fixture against an Ampthill development squad. Using this as an opportunity to give some game time to our wider squad and try a couple of guys in different positions. The weather was a bit wet and windy but the pitch was in pretty good nick.

From the kick-off Tows put pressure on Ampthill with organisation in defence and some good strong runs. Dominating the 1st part of the half Tows took the lead with Jacob scoring two tries and Sam T grabbing a conversion to go 12-0 up fairly quickly.

Using the wind to good advantage Ampthill had some good field position for the later part of the half, but stout tackling from Tows and some hard work at the breakdown meant that we ended the half without conceding a score.

Making changes in the 2nd half and continuing to rotate our players we asked the lads to continue to set up our platforms and phases when in possession and to keep the pressure on when we didn't have the ball.

The lads reacted brilliantly and Tows had the vast majority of possession and territory. Jacob got the ball rolling with a strong run to grab his first hat-trick of the season.

Kit then scored a great opportunist try stopping the big strong Amthill fullback to grab his first try. Further scores were added by Kody and a final try from Kit, and with a couple of conversions from Sam - we extended the lead to 36-0 which is where the match ended.

This was a good run out for the boys to carry on with our squad development. The Ampthill lads were Game opposition who passed the ball well and stuck at it, and didn't make it easy for us, we had to earn the win today for sure.

Thanks to all lads and parents for getting down on a wet and windy day, it's good experience to come over to a club like Ampthill and all part of our learning.

We continue with some competitive fixtures in the weeks ahead, so lads as always please get to training on Wednesday so we can continue to sharpen our game up.

Score: Tows 36 - Ampthill 0

Tries: Jacob (3), Kit (2), Kody

Conversions Sam T (3)

MOM: Jacob Reid - Cracking all round performance in defence and in attack.
