This was a good game of Rugby today against two good sides, with Kettering coming out on top at the end.
The 1st half saw Tows start well and dominate possession and territory for the first 20-25 minutes. Our forwards were aggressive and our rucking and defense was strong and we were causing Kettering problems and disrupting their play. A great try from Dan saw us take the lead to 7-0. A couple of sloppy tackles here and there and then going a man down to a yellow card at the back end of the 2nd half saw Kettering go in at half time 12-7 up which probably wasn't entirely a fair reflection of the balance of play.
The 2nd half saw Kettering have the better of the game and extend there lead with some well taken tries. Tows fought back and got a try at the end with McKenzie crashing over after some aggressive go forward play from the pack.
Overall Kettering deserved to win the game but Tows competed well in a number of facets with some great set piece play in the scrums and line outs and some really good individual performances.
Overall this was a solid showing against a side who have won the plate cup for the last two seasons and who have a very large number of their team in the EPDG or DPP squads, and probably a team who could be competitive a division higher. We have shown that we are closing the gap and can give anyone we play a very hard game and there were many positives from today.
