When the Director of Rugby at Coventry RFC gives up his Sunday morning because he wanted to see how our lads play, you realise that this bunch of lads have something quite special. After our win at ON’s two weeks ago, St.Neots RFC asked if they could bring some Colts players along as they were struggling with numbers. We were fine with that, as it suits us to play a better opposition and St.Neots are a good side. Their Forward pack was considerably bigger than ours and their numbers 12 and 15 were quality players that would have got in to almost any side.

Today was our 'New-Kit-Day' with the new O’Neills manufactured kit finally arriving after several delays! Many thanks to our own shirt sponsor – Wolfe Menswear – founded by Northampton Saints back row player, Teimana Harrison. The kit looks great and it’s nice for the boys to have the new kit for their final year playing as Juniors.

As it's Remembrance Sunday, our boys led the minutes' silence with all age-groups that were at Home, joining in. All players, from all teams, stood to remember those lost and did so with great respect and humility. Well done Tows.

At 11:05am, we kicked off. St.Neots are a big physical side and despite a strong show from our Under 16's there was no score for the first 20 minutes. Despite us having a couple of clear chances without reward, our defence was strong enough to ensure that St.Neots were also unable to score despite some good opportunities.

Our final break came from a couple of crash balls then quick hands through the Backs. Great run from JJ, who was on fire. Try to Tows. The kick for Harvey was out wide and he just pushed the kick. 5-0 to Tows.

Our Forwards were immense today, unbelievable team spirit, strength, and fast to the breakdowns. Bailey in particular was having a great game with several turnovers and three penalties awarded to us when they didn't release. Him and Josh so quick to the breakdowns, it was upsetting their No.7 who couldn't keep up. Unfortunately, his discipline wasn't what we would expect of our own players and several times he was cautioned by the Referee.

A clearance from Harvey took advantage of the (new this Season) 50 to 22 rule - our boys getting the attacking line-out instead of it being a defensive set-piece. Our throw inside their 22, set for a brilliant maul that pushed them back and back – eventually they collapsed it, Ricardo picking up and diving for the line and our second try. Harvey doesn't miss two on the bounce, so his conversion meant we were 12-0 up.

The next big play came from a turnover - strong running and rucking was disrupting their Pack. One high tackle gave us a Penalty which Harvey took quickly... a hard run from from their 22 meter line, committed the tackle before offloading to JJ who ran it in for our third try. A difficult kick for Harvey, but he still slotted it.

19-0 to Tows.

They pressed us hard leading in to half-time. An unforced error from Jacob, Dicks then being pinged for being off his feet at the ruck. Penalty to St.Neots. They decided to get the points on the board, so kicked making the score 19-3, which took us in to half time.

Half time: 19-3.

We started the second half as we'd finished the first. Fast, strong and decisive plays. A Penalty to us inside their 22 and Harvey tried a cute kick over their heads - it almost worked, but they did get possession back from it. Taylor was in fast though and managed to rip the ball back which he popped to Ricardo. A strong run at the line almost got him over the try line, but their defence just stopped him. Off the ruck, Josh picked and dived for the line and thus secured our fourth try. Harvey nailed the kick from wide too, 26-3 Tows.

The next attack came from St.Neots, sustained pressure pushing us back in to our 22. Our scrum after a knock-on, fast hands got the ball to Harvey who ran a hard line deep in to their half. Great support play and rucking again - quick hands to the Backs ended up with a Tows penalty after another high-tackle. 10 meters out. Harv kicked to touch and our line-out was crisp with a dominant maul – pushing them back until Joe managed to get the ball down for another try. Harv missed this kick, but we were still 31-3 up.

The next play was disappointing. Their No.7 had been niggling various boys from the very start and when he held on to the ball a touch too long, Ricardo hit him was a very hard but fair tackle. Their lad really didn't take that well and went after Ricardo off the ball. The ref didn't see it immediately, but the resulting coming together ended up with the Ref asking the No.7 to leave - being substituted - and not able to return. We also took Taylor off as he was dragged in to the altercation too. A few minutes for all boys to calm down and get back to rugby. To be fair, the rest of the game went without too much incident, which was good to see.

This had given us a Penalty which Harvey kicked to the 10 meter. Line-out and another dominant maul. Quick hands out the back to Pickles who scored a great try. Conversion missed, the score was 36-3.

Straight from the restart, Harvey caught the ball and ran a hard line back at them. A pass to our Prop, Luke, and he turned in to a steam train. I'm not sure who could have stopped his run - two of their boys tried, and were sent reeling back - great power from the big man. Quick hands from there to JJ and he secured us yet another try. Harv kicked and we were now 43-3 up.

There wasn't long left now and we were a bit surprised that a Penalty for them on our 30 meter was chosen to go for the posts as opposed to try and get their first try? A decent kick from their lad made the score 43-6.

The last play was much the same - a penalty given away on our 30 meter and they chose to kick, again? Another nice kick, but it did little to change the score which ended 43-9 to Towcestrians. Dominant performance that was a joy to watch. Well played lads.
